If you are a NYCDOH permit holder and you no longer want to be treated as a revenue source you should sign this petition!

 The NYCDOH has been taking advantage of the unprotected small business owner long enough, it's time they stop treating us like criminals and give us the respect we deserve as we are likely the biggest employer in NYC. There are a lot of issues with the inspection process that the city needs to correct. As a business owner we all understand that the city needs (and wants) the revenue. I think we would also agree that we are willing to pay our fair share to help support the city in which we are doing business in but it needs to be fairly executed. "A one size fits all" model doesn't work in this unique city.

It is imperative that we all take the initiative to act now in order to protect our establishments from unfair and inconsistent inspections. These inspections could lead to significant loss of business and possibly closure.

As a small business owner I'm sure you have encountered at least one of the following issues;

  • Unprofessional inspectors
  • Ambiguous codes & regulations
  • And much more
Our goal is to ensure that the city revises and reviews the inspection process for real world situations and not just their hypotheticals. For example, an inspector may come into your establishment when you are not present and check the refrigeration. While this sounds valid in theory, depending on the inspector, he or she may not be familiar with your equipment to realize that the change in temperature is caused by an automatic defrost cycle. Size also matters! How can the city evaluate a 300 sq ft place using the same codes and regulations as the ones used for a 6,000 sq ft business? What about the businesses in and near the transit system? Is it not the cities responsibility to keep these public areas clean and rodent free? Is it fair to punish a business for circumstances beyond their control? What ownership or support is the city providing these businesses which are depended on by it's citizens? And still they issue the failing grade...

Our motto has always been "United we stand, divided we fall". It is imperative that we work together to have our voices heard as these rules and regulations can significantly impact our livelihood. We work hard to create and nurture our businesses, and deserve to be consistently treated with dignity and respect.

Since this impacts so many businesses owners, employees and even our customers, please urge everyone to sign this petition today.

Don't delay, act now!
