Name: Anonymous on Jun 13, 2012Comments: It is imperative that all players have a safe field to play on everyday. This is supposed to be fun and it's not fair when the fields are not maintained on a daily basis. We pay good money to be in these leagues, its the least the parks department can do to ensure our safety.Flag

Name: Stephen Kramer on Jun 13, 2012Comments: I have found park maintenance in New York City to be absolutely deplorable. In addition to softball, I play other sports around the city. The fields by the water at Inwood Hill Park are outright dangerous and those at Riverside Park are unusable for a week after any amount of rain. The miserable conditions at these parks lead to injuries and discourage any competitive or athletic outlet. Please improve the maintenance of these fields!Flag

Name: Jason Rausch on Jun 13, 2012Comments: It is disturbing to hear about the lack of care that many Manhattan fields receive, most notably from my experience, the fields along the east river. The standing water, uneven dirt surfaces and potholes that form around homeplate make it extremely dangerous as players are susceptible to serious injury from slipping and falling, bad bounces from ground balls and sliding in potholes. Remember that sliding is encouraged as a form of safety, but when there are potholes near the bases/homeplate, it is mentally discouraging to slide because of the risk of getting a leg jammed/twisted, which could easily cause serious bone breaks and/or cartilage tears. The City is spending a lot of money to restore and refurbish the running path/bike lanes along the east river - they've added shrubbery and benches and it looks great. Why is the City letting the ball fields become the eye sores and danger zones of the east side now?Flag
