Comments: My children are now just beyond nursery, but I can confirm that the cost and anxiety regarding childcare are extremely significant. They did not in my case cause me to withdraw from academia, but they certainly led me to question my career choices on many occasions, and they have also had an impact on my productivity. Helping out staff and students in this area would be enormously beneficial to the success of individuals and the College as a whole.

Comments: This is a crucial issue which is coupled with the fact that maternity cover at full salary is only available for 4 months but mothers are advised to breast feed exclusively for the first 6 months of a baby's life. The shortfall could be covered by proper childcare facilities on campus. What also needs to be born in mind is that if the cost for 1 child in full time care is very expensive for working parents, the costs for two children (the national average) is prohibitive for junior as well as mid-career members of staff.

Comments: Although my children are now grown up I well remember the problems of child care when they were younger and strongly support this proposal

Comments: When my first child was at Little Echoes nursery, my entire monthly salary was spent on childcare and transport.

Comments: I thoroughly agree with this petition. I am getting married soon and intend to have a family in the not too distant future. I was very excited to hear about the provision of a workplace nursery at RHUL however now hearing of the costs it would not be worth me working full-time at all as the majority of my monthly salary would be spent on childcare. I would rather stay at home to see my children grow up and earn no money. Regards Lisa

Comments: Struggling to make ends meet at the moment due to high childcare costs. An affordable nursery on campus would make all the difference!

Comments: A subsidised provision for staff and postgraduates should be part of College's care for its younger staff. Please look again at reduced fees!

Comments: I would also like to add that i applied and paid £40 to be put on the waiting list to the nursery in 2009 and never recieved confirmation of a place. Obviousy my son now goes somewhere else, but it is surprising i never got a call offering that place in the last thre years.
