To Ministry of Health and Long Term Care M-1B114, Macdonald Block 900 Bay Street Toronto ON M7A 1N3 Canada Date: March 20, 2013 Summary: Increase awareness about nurse burnout due to heavy patient workload and lack of support. We, the nurses, would like the ministry of health to pass stricter federal law and regulation about the patient workload in any hospital or institution. We need strict laws in place to protect the nurses, who are burnout due to patient work load and lack of support. Many times nurses are assigned with heavy assignment without appropriate support. For instance, nurses are suffering from different health condition and they are stress, fatigue, high blood pressure, headache etc. As a result nurses are not able to concentrate on their patients and involve themselves in different legal issues such as med error and unsafe patient care. As we very well know, such mistakes or unsafe care affects patients valuable life. We urge the government to investigate the matter and set standards or strict regulation about nurse burnout and appropriate support regarding heavy patient load. We also demand that a regular audit in the hospitals or institutions to ensure support for the nurses.
