We deserve better from our university who we call family and the town that we call home. Signing the petition is only the first step.

To complain about the law: email and call the City of Evanston aldermen. Check here for your ward and then email your alderman with your complaints. Make sure to include your name and street address.

To complain about the way the university refuses to stand up and fight for us: email University President Morty Schapiro at [email protected] or Dean of Students Burgie Howard at [email protected]. Wildcats stick together.

This petition will be sent to Morty Schapiro, Burgie Howard, all of the City of Evanston aldermen and the mayor and other city officials.  The Daily Northwestern's editorial best explains why you should sign this. Read it here.

Reaching one thousand signatures shows that many of us feel the same burden regarding these housing restrictions. I am grateful to everyone who has taken a moment to speak up for a more reasonable approach in our town. This level of participation sends a clear signal that the status quo is no longer acceptable.

Reaching this level of support indicates that our community recognizes the urgency of addressing these outdated policies. It is encouraging to see so many people align on the idea that our living standards require a more thoughtful approach from local officials.

The momentum building behind this effort shows that many of us are ready to challenge the status quo regarding our housing rights. Reaching one thousand signatures provides the clear indicator of consensus we need to open a serious dialogue with city leadership. Please direct your focus toward bringing in more signers now while the momentum remains strong.

I cant believe this is even a thing still. Let people live where they want! My rent is already way too high.

This is ridiculous. We are adults and can choose who we live with in our own homes. Evanston needs to grow up.

The city is just trying to squeeze more money out of students. Totally unfair and outdated.

Total overreach by the city council. Focus on actual problems instead of who is sharing an apartment.

Ridiculous. Stop regulating where we live. Wildcats deserve better than this.

GET RID OF THIS LAW ALREADY. So tired of being treated like a child by the university and the city. Fix it.
