202 Ricky KnightBarnstapleReplacing Trident represents a hugely dangerous return to the Cold war tactics of confrontation, targetting, stand-off and MAD. Nukes are indiscriminate - they do not choose their specific target, regardless of the small print on the so-called smart tactical ones. They wipe out populations and the ecosphere. Escalation is inevitable. It's an blatantly immoral challenge to post-communist Russia - and they will respond - are doing so already.

223 daniel beardlondonIf the global community placed money into renewable energy projects, rather then spending money on nuclear arms (which are useless against terrorists), then the world would be able to deal with our greatest threat, that being global warming.

225 Norman CopelandNew BarnetBritain was using landmines during world war two, those struggling third world countries bought those stocks and crude technology because there cheap and VERY scary, WE should clean countries of them, I believe knowledge of nuclear energy applications is vital for future scientif advancement and producing nuclear weapons is pretty simplistic once you have more of the knowledge of atomic behaviour your realise disarming isn't something which will advance the modern sociology of a democratic environment. However, world governments could advance world security with stealth sociology and practical applications connecting the different cultures of the planet, chemical weapons are used everyday in Britain and America {cfc's from appliances, lead and metal poisoning from tinned food, assbestos from fire resistant products}, my opinion is be scarred of wars , but, cleaning your own home of threat is perhaps more appropriate and THAT acknowledgement is plenty more than 80% of the argument. Terrorists will always use biological weapons as they are so simple to produce, aids H.I.V syringes, blood transfusions, hospital virus's... etc, etc, etc. The threat is much more serious among Modern western environments.

240 Sanya John-AdegbolaBrightonNuclear weaponry has nothing but negative repercussions. It is laudable that the HM Government wishes to discourage nuclear warfare, but a reintroduction of our personal arsenal would not be a display of practicing what we preach. In fact, if one were feeling cynical, one might conclude that such actions would be a demonstration of the UK wishing to merely reaffirm the establishment of its dominance on the world stage. I, however, would like to excercise some faith in our new leader. Let's not start another Cold War, Gordon...

244 Ray DuffFolkestoneThe money to be wasted on Trident replacement, along with a new round of N power stations, would be far better spent on greatly increasing renewables tech, flood defences and rebuilding council and affordable eco-friendly housing and communities. That's where real 'security' now lies, along with changing foreign policies away from the 'smash & grab, parasitical' ones we've followed for.. well, centuries really.
