As for "keeping the peace", I think this is clearly rendered idiotic by the many wars which both have been and are currently being fought under the "nuclear umbrella". Thus I believe the "independent" (sic) British nuclear deterrent is a ludicrously expensive anachronism, which would be best dispensed with rather than renewed. |
