From June 13-17 2012, NSW will play host to dogs and their handlers from across Australia and New Zealand for the 2012 Nationals Agility Trial. This will be the largest agility trial held to date in Australia with over 6,300 individual runs across 5 days and 5 concurrently-run rings. Sunday June 17 is Finals day, where the dogs who have performed the best will compete for top honours - and state teams of 6 dogs and handlers from across Australia and NZ compete in a teams event in agility and jumping - except the Northern Territory. There are 7 competitors making the long trek from the North to Sydney. The visiting Territorians have all agreed that the top 6-titled/qualified dogs from NT should be put forward to Dogs NT as a team to be endorsed to compete in the teams event. Dogs NT has declined to endorse this team to compete on the Territory's behalf. This is a fantastic opportunity to display the spirit in which agility is run - every dog deserves a chance, every handler deserves a chance, every state deserves a chance. Agility competitors across the nation have expressed dismay at this failure by Dogs NT to endorse a team. It is a wasted opportunity to show how far-flung this great sport is, and how committed its competitors are. In light of this... We the undersigned petition Dogs NT to endorse the 6 Northern Territorians attending the Nationals Agility 2012 trial in NSW during June 2012 who are willing and able to form a state team as the official NT team for the teams final. (This petition is a grass-roots effort started by a NSW-based competitor going to their first Nationals Agility Trial who fiercely supports his sport and wants it to have be able to highlight its "everyone gets a go" nature. It is not affiliated with any club, committee or Canine Council.)
