Name: Michael Galyk on May 18, 2007Comments: I was in Cub Scouts as a child and very much enjoyed the experience. When my two sons decided to join Cub Scouts, I became a Den Leader and then Cubmaster to help support the scouting program. Both of my sons are now Boy Scouts and I am active in the troop as an Assistant Scoutmaster. Each of the last five summers, I have spent time with my sons and the troop at Camp Avery Hand. We have many great memories of our time spent at Avery Hand. One of the most difficult things I have done as a scout leader was to explain to the troop that we would not be attending summer camp at Avery Hand. The first question from they boyFlag

Words cannot adequately describe the importance that the BSA and this camp has been in the lives of teenagers over many decades.Flag

Name: Thomas Butler on May 22, 2007Comments: I am appalled that the council leadership has not developed an appreciation for the natural world, an appreciation I myself gained in the fields, woods and waters of the Camp. That a place which can provide unforgettable experiences to so many would be sold (most likely to a deveolper to build more McMansions) to cover short term deficiencies goes against every concept of thrift, conservation and civic duty I learned as a Scout.Flag

Name: Glen E. Bishop on Jan 17, 2008Comments: Camp Avery Hand was a very large part of my life between my age of 11 and 17. It was there that I learned most of my scouting skills and learned to love the outdoors. It is a permanent part of my past and people like Mr. George Zerby were my hero's. I would hope the camp would be permanent and available for young scouts for many years to come. If we have scouting executives that want to sell off beautiful and much needed camps like Camp Avery Hand it is our responsibility to do our best to get these people replaced by more responsible individuals. It seems to me like we have executives that know very little about scouting and want to run it like big business. If they didn't have a history in scouting they have no business leading us. Glen E. Name: Rick Summerton on Mar 20, 2008Comments: Rick Summerton As a former member of troop 586 and a former boy of Camp Avery Hand it saddens me greatly to see the loss of this particular camp. I have a son who is a webelo currently and will be moving to the boyscout rank in another year. I also have a younger son who will be able to join cub scouts in another three years. My current position within the Greater Western Reserve Council in cub master for about 35 boys. We also lost a camp and are now down to two camp in our council. it is not an easy thing to lose and hurts everyone involved. this should be taken into consideration when selling something that is valuable to many people of all ages. As a staffer(1989 to 1991) and former scouter of Camp Avery hand i ask that you reconsider your thaought of selling my past and my kids futureFlag

Name: Becky Martin on Mar 20, 2008Comments: Camp Averyhand needs to be kept open. My son went to camp, then worked at camp. If he would have only had the option of going to Firelands he probably could not have went to camp because of the distance & with gas prices as high as they are may stop parents from sending their kids to camp. My oldest grandson is in scouts now & enjoys camp very much, the middle grandson isn't old enough to join scouts but goes when the activities permit. Camp Averyhand needs to be KEPT OPEN FOR THE SCOUTS!!Flag
