Name: Peggy on May 6, 2007Comments: The secretive way that Heart of Ohio has meetings and makes plans to destroy the scouting program in our area is not accepable ans something needs to be done. Our small group of camp supporters is growing daily and we are certain that we can slay the Goliaths in our council like David slayed Goliath in biblical times.Flag

Name: Carey D. Hutchins on May 7, 2007Comments: Ok enough! We need to seek legal assistance. 80K a year for an office in Ashland Ohio can only be one of two things. It is either Crimminal behavior, or complete ignorance with money. I believe the first should be challenged ! Do you also know that Barry Norris makes more than the director of Natural resources and he manages 3000 employees and a budget of 300 million +. Not to mention the acres of forestry and land he is responsibile for.Flag

Name: Arthur Sorensen Jr on May 12, 2007Comments: Eagle Scout - Mansfield, Ohio I am fairly certain there is a clause that states "land that is DONATED to a non-profit organization cannot be sold if it will no longer be used for the purpose it was intended. It must be given back to the community." Taken from wikipedia - "A non-profit organization is an organization whose primary objective is to support an issue or matter of private interest or public concern for non-commercial purposes, without concern for monetary profit." That last part strikes me as relevent to this cause- 'without concern for monetary profit." Hmm, is that what non-profit meant Even Dan Beard once said "What the wilderness has to offer as a Scouting retreat and as an outdoor educational laboratory is much, much more valuable than any profit made from its sale." Stop closing the camps, or one day, the BSA will close as well.Flag

Name: John D. Hazen, Jr. on May 12, 2007Comments: As an Eagle Scout and former Assistant Scout Master, I find it deplorable that the Boy Scouts of America on a national level are not doing more to help prevent the sale of scout camps across the country. Scouting has taken numerous "hits" the last few years, and this seems to be another example of what is wrong with scouting on a national level. Many great men and women across this country have devoted huge amounts of time, energy, and their own dollars to further the scouting cause. Perhaps the national leaders need to leave their offices once in awhile and see the sacrafice and dedication that is occuring on a local level. Anyone who ever benifited from a camp should help stop the sale of camps across the country.Flag

Name: Anonymous on May 13, 2007Comments: I can not see how there is reason for justification to sell any scout camps. We need scout volunteers to get involved to see how the money is being use. The land was donated years ago when people were honetst and trying not to have or support high payroll. They need to stop it and stop it now. These money hungery people have made this into a big get rich and pad the pockets in the higher up.Flag

Name: Tom Grandy on May 13, 2007Comments: Camp Avery Hand in Mansfield, Ohio is being set up to be sold by setting unrealistic expectations for keeping it open. It smells of an easy way to liquidate a property that land developers would love to get their hands on. So, another development goes up and another scouting opportunity disappears. What is more valuable in the long run Another 100 luxury homes or a place for hundreds of thousands of scouts to learn the love of the outdoors over the years. Its a no-brainer for me, but I guess the Heart of Ohio Council has a better idea for what they can do with the money they will make by selling off the camp. Name: Tim Leon on May 14, 2007Comments: It is obvious the executive leadership for the Jonny Appleseed District had miss-managed the financial health of the district. Scouting in general stands to loose a significant community of supporters. Consider the amount of donated effort and money over many many years. What a shame to think of the many adults who will search for another hobby to consume their free time and extra cash. What a shame to think of the youth who will no longer have the opportunity to benefit from the ethics and morals that accompany the good clean fun scouting offers. ItFlag

Name: Ryan Kelley on May 15, 2007Comments: I believe that Heart of Ohio Council, BSA is making a terrible mistake. I wonder if they've noticed the drastic drop in troops going to the other council camp because they are shutting down CAH. This is absurd. Barry Norris should be fired.Flag
