Name: James Vickers on Nov 20, 2006Comments: I am a social worker working in the field of domestic violence over the last 5 years. I am very familiar with the absolutely essential work that has been done at Nova Vita by commited, skilled and professional people who have given women children and men a safer and more respectful Brantford community to live in. I was extremely dismayed and outraged by the contradictory stance that the management and board at Nova Vita appear to have locked themselves into that diminishes, not only the men and women who work in the front-lines at Nova Vita, but the women and families who benefit from these services. I implore anyone who can make a difference in this violation of social justice to show themselves as allies for an honourable and fair settlement to this dispute.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Nov 21, 2006Comments: Staff are underpaid especially compared to other regions in Ontario. The clause for availability regarding casual employment is UNFAIR and should be ammended. I believe that an agency of such importance in the "helping profession" going to the point of a strike in the first place is outrageous ! Management:Get back to the bargaining table ! Strikers: Hang in there !Flag

I feel that they are extremely under-paid for their work and professionalism and deserve to be heard.Flag

Name: Leslie Brown on Nov 21, 2006Comments: The staff at Nova Vita provide excellent service to the women and their children in this community. It is very disappointing to see the management of this government run agency does not recognize that working without a valid current and fair contract is not condusive to providing the high quality of care that this staff has been doing for years. Once again women and children are being penalized but this time from the management and board of directors of this agency since most of the staff at Nova Vita are women. Wishing all the striking staff the best and I hope you get back to negotiations soon,Flag

I respectfuloly urge you to consider the employees requests. I believe that their work is impacting the men, women, and children at risk in the city of Brantford and that they deserve a fair chance at negotiations. I speak on behalf of one of many who was deeply affected by the superior work of Nova Vita Staff. Thank-you for you time.Flag

The women and children in the shelter need to get their needs met but qualified staff. They need to have the staff they have built relationships and confidence in back.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Nov 25, 2006Comments: Joy Freeman needs to be removed form her position immediately to show her what its like to have a lack of job security. By the way how did JOY get her job Was it because she was recognized for her services in other places and her qualifications These are the exact same issues the union was trying to resolve in negotiations. Day after day JOY and the representatives of NOVA VITA are causing undue hardship for the PROFESSIONAL women and men that would normally provide PROFESSIONAL services to their clients. Instead she (JOY) has PROFESSIONAL SCABS doing this job. Clearly the scabs do not have a professional bone in their body or the clients wouldn't be out asking the striking members to come back because they are not being treated the same or being offered the same programs as before. What happens to the funding coming in to help maintain the programs, but the programs are no longer running. Funding I may add that is from other unions and/or members of other unions as well as corporations. Are you paying the funding to PROFESSIONAL SCABS, the story out on the street is that the professional scabs make enough money in four months to keep them going for a year. I am sure the community and the people funding would like to know more of how much money they are being paid. I definately would especially if I was paying into a funding corporation. ANYWAYS, enough ranting. What is it NOVA VITA stands for NEW LIFE! Lets bring new life to these negotiations, members and most importantly the clients by getting back on track and getting back to the negotiating table.Flag

Name: Matt McIlvaney on Nov 25, 2006Comments: The Nova Vita clearly displays the rightful way of treating women and young children in the community. It is really sad to see the hardships that these men and women are going through at a time like this in the year. Having to picket on the streets at christmas while their families sit at home. Is this fair I don't think so. there should be no exception when management drive out of there way to not come in contact with the strikers. the collective agreement needs be fixed in this process as well as these men and womens sinority rights. The management and the union are a bunch of donkeys. They need to wipe there ass and open there eyes. WAKE UP.Flag
