There has been some speculation that the Irish Government will try to introduce a new Property Tax. As residents of a multi unit development, households pay between substantially per annum to a Property Management Company for maintenance fees which includes certain services that residents of other developments receive routinely e.g.: sewerage, street lighting. As Property Management Companies are not yet regulated in Ireland we have no choice but to pay the fees set by the Management Company annually. We implore the Government to acknowledge the fact that people living in multi-unit developments already pay a form of property tax in the manner of maintenance fees and to impose a property taxation on owners of multi unit developments without at least regulating & legislating the industry of property management companies would be shortsighted in the extreme and would lead to a form of double taxation for these owners. We therefore implore the Government to take stock of all these considerations before introducing any such taxations.
