Winning Athletes at the Olympics Are Currently Awarded as Much as $25,000.00 for winning a gold, silver or bronze medal. This modest sum is given as a small thank you for their hard work and sacrifice in representing our country against the world's best Athletes. Yet as soon as one is crosses the finish line and stands atop the medal stand then they are required by law to pay almost $9,000.00 in taxes if they win gold. I intend with this petition to urge congress and the president to pass a law making athletes exempt from this tax. Any honorarium award by the US Olympic Committee be awarded in full with no tax liability.
