Name: John Bouma on Jan 20, 2010Comments: I am writing to urge you to pass legistation to reimburse Catholic Schools the cost for paying the mandated Payroll tax and to provide them the funds they are duly entitled to. I send my children to a Catholic school by choice. I do so because despite living in a very nice neighborhood we are zoned for both an Intermediate and a High School that I wouldn't send my worst enemy too, never mind my children. If the cost of Catholic schooling goes any higher we will be forced to move to a neighborhood in NJ where the public school are top-notch.Flag

Name: Ester Fracchiolla on Jan 20, 2010Comments: It is not fair to parents who want a better education for their children and are willing to pay because the schools in their neighborhood are not up to standards. We should be able to have a tax deduction for our children attending Catholic/Private schools.Flag

Name: Marina DSstefano on Jan 20, 2010Comments: Why do the hard working taxpayers getting treated unfairly agian. The parents on Staten Island are forced to send our children to Catholic School because of the Liberal Teachings, Busing in Minorities that don't want to learn and bully our kids. Parents that are sending their children to Catholic school should get a tax break instead of a tuition increase. I am a single mom by choice that doesn't live off the system, pays for her own health insurance($1050.00 a month) runs a business, and trying to raise my children properly.. I am an American and were are our rights. I am tired like most Americans that go to work and pay our taxes supporting everyone else..Start charging the Illegal Immigrants, Welfare People a tax instead of giving the Food Stamps, Free Health Care and other benefits..You would all have more than enough money to give the MTA .Flag

Name: Josephine Chionchio on Jan 20, 2010Comments: Small businesses and schools should not be subject to an MTA tax. Get rid of the bureacracy in the MTA or privatize the MTA and you will see how profitable it will become. It is totally amazing that the the MTA is constantly in the red and it has millions of riders per day.Flag

Name: STACIE STEWART-VOTA on Jan 20, 2010Comments: AS A PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHER I CHOOSE TO SEND MY DAUGHTER TO A CATHOLC SCHOOL BECAUSE OF RELIGIOUS REASONS. IF TUITION BECOMES TOO HIGH, MYSELF AND MANY OTHER PARENTS WHO HAE MADE THE SAME CHOICE WILL BE FORCED TO PUT THEIR CHILD IN PUBLIC SCHOOL. I CAN TELL YOU FROM EXPERIENCE THERE WILL NOT BE ENOUGH ROOM IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL FOR THESE STUDENTS AND THE PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM WILL BECOME A MESS! THERE IS NOT ENOUGH ROOM RIGHT NOW! DOESN'T THE MAYOR AND MR. KLEIN KNOW THAT WE ARE DOING THEM A FAVOR? WE PAY OUR TAXES AND WE RELIEVE THE BOARD OF ED THE COST OF OUR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION! THEY SHOULD BE THANKING US NOT PENALIZING US!Flag

Name: Nadia Kovaleva on Jan 21, 2010Comments: It is extremely unfair to deny Catholic Schools the aid. The Staten Island public schools are overpopulated already, the Catholic Schools take a lot of pressure from the publick schools. If the Catholic Schools will go out of business the public schools will not be able to take all the children in... and even if they will take everyone, what kind of education can the kids get in overpopulated classes?Flag

Name: Natalie Crispi on Jan 21, 2010Comments: This tax is a discriminatory tax against Catholic school children. Different types of schools should not be treated differently. Especially since Catholic school families are sacrificing to pay tuition to give a moral and structured education to their children. Public schools have taken all morals and values out of their teachings, basically "anything goes". Tuition tax credits should be given to these families who are making a conscious effort to better their child's life.Flag

Name: Adrienne Graziano on Jan 22, 2010Comments: I oppose the MTA payroll tax. It is obnoxious and unfair to impose a payroll tax on Catholic schools when we are already paying tuition and saving the state millions of dollars that it would otherwise incur to educate our children. We cannot afford to pay for the MTA's irresponsibility.Flag
