No to police brutality
At least five Sussex University students have been indefinitely suspended following the peaceful occupation of Sussex House, the main university administration building, on Wednesday 3rd March.
The Vice-Chancellor has overruled the normal disciplinary procedure and suspended the students before presenting them with any evidence of their alleged offences or giving them any opportunity to make their case. The students have been barred from entering campus and their access to computer facilities withdrawn.
This follows the heavy-handed response to the protest by police, who beat back students using dogs, batons and CS spray at the behest of University management
These are completely disproportionate attempts to silence peaceful protest on campus.
We call on the Vice-Chancellor to
· immediately reinstate all suspended students
· follow due process before issuing sanctions
· issue a condemnation of the police response to the protest

We are climbing toward a hundred names and I honestly cannot believe how quickly this is moving even though the news from campus is just so upsetting to hear. If you could just grab a few people to add their support right now while we have this momentum going it would make a massive difference to show the university we are not going to stop watching what they do.

Police with dogs and spray on students?? Who authorized that? Management needs to answer for this immediately.
Fair treatment is a basic right. You dont just suspend people without due process. Fix this now.
This is a total disgrace. Sussex should be ashamed of themselves for calling the police on their own students. Disgusting behavior from management.
let them back in. what happened to freedom of speech at uni? totally out of line.
They barely even gave these kids a chance to speak. Since when is protesting a reason to get kicked off campus without proof of anything?
