Name: Jocelyn Watson on Nov 16, 2011Comments: In these depressing times, being able to move to different places and spaces through literature is vital to helping us all to be compassionate, sensitive, caring human beings. Short Stories through the BBC have a key role to play that mustn't be undermined or ended.Flag

Name: Steve Tinniswood on Nov 17, 2011Comments: Radio 4 has supported our finest writers for many years, many of whom have gained their big break through short stories - not to mention the endless hours of entertainment it brings to the listener. Don't cut short the short stories!Flag

Name: Loco Motive on Nov 18, 2011Comments: this is a ridiculous move on the part of the BBC - just today one of the big publishers has released short story digital downloads, because the demand for stories is growing, and the BBC is cutting them back? I am rolling my eyes at the people who're running radio 4.Flag

Name: Professor AM Motard on Nov 19, 2011Comments: BBC Radio 4 is a wonderful means to keep in touch with British cultural life -especially when you live far away. Please keep all your very interesting programmes, including short stories which are so enjoyable and help listeners escape from gloomy and depressing current affairs!Flag

Name: Seán Smith on Nov 20, 2011Comments: Even as a political junkie the idea that we need more current affairs output at the expense of short-stories is utter nonsense. Schedules are already heaving with current affairs programming, whilst short fiction is tucked away in small, secretive corners. Rather than reducing its output of the form the BBC should be making more of its long-standing commitment to the genre: celebrate not desecrate! In a time when appreciation for short fiction is on the rise, and at a time when budget cuts are being forced on the BBC, it is baffling that the organisation would choose to make less, rather than more, of these stories, which are so inexpensive and yet perfectly-suited to radio. Please reverse the decision.Flag
