PLEDGE TO STOP CONSUMING SHARK FINS!

Shark finning is a cruel practice that involves the removal and retention of sharks’ fins. In performing shark finning, fishermen haul the shark onto a boat’s deck in order to cut its fins off. Shark finning merely utilizes 5% of the entire shark. Sharks that suffer from finning are merely tossed back into the sea where they slowly drown, and oftentimes, eaten alive by other fish!

In Indonesia, up to 200 000 tonnes of shark are caught annually. Even though most of the fins ended up being exported to the markets of China, Hong Kong and Singapore, shark fin dishes can also be readily bought at restaurants spread all over Indonesia. One third of shark species, 15% of which live in Indonesian waters, are on the brink of extinction. Nowadays, as shark population dwindles, Indonesian fishermen have to travel farther and farther out to the sea in order to satisfy the demand for shark fin.

By pledging to stop consuming sharks fins, YOU will contribute in diminishing the demand for sharks fins. Thus, less sharks will have to suffer from shark finning.

Sharks don't belong in a bowl.

Save our sharks. Save our oceans.
