Comments: Northmoor Weir is one of the few remaining full width Paddle and Rhymer weirs left, not only the Thames, but in the UK and Europe. Having been upgraded in 1995 it should last at least another 40 years. The argument for replacement on H&S grounds has been contested by an expert. Whilst arguing that a mechanical weir will give them greater control of the water (contested), the EA have also admitted that the proposed new mechanical weir will have very little impact, if any, on flooding. £3,000,000 could be put to much greater use to prevent flooding elsewhere along the Thames. For all these reasons, and more, I fully support this campaign to save Northmoor Weir.

Comments: An absolutely obscene waste of public money. The reasoning is spurious and it is clear that any new weir control system cannot possibly inprove the situation in times of severe flooding, as the Thames water level is equivalent on both sides of the lock at those times............the barrier is bypassed and the lock and weir effectively cease to exist.

Comments: Automating the weir will cost a huge amount of public money - to achieve what? Exactly the same flow control results as when it is done - as it has been so professionally for decades - by a lock-keeper. Methinks the management and CEO of the EA need a few lessons in basic business management here.

Comments: The EA have failed to convince me that the proposed measures are necessary and their supposed consultation meeting recently in the village was predicated on a particulart outcome and therefore not true consultation.

Comments: A complete waste of money. The weir at Northmoor Lock does not need replacing and remains the best and most cost effective solution, not to mention a historically important one.

Comments: Have the Director or shareholders groups been made aware of the huge misspend? If it truly is H&S then simply insure against a claim for vastly less.Soldiers fight wars so some contract must allow for the "risk" here.

Comments: I used to fish in the weirpool as a child in the 1960's onwards, and feel a close association with the weirpool. I hope it remains as it currently is and the £3 million is spent on more worthwhile causes.
