We, the undersigned residents of the Yukon Territory, draw the attention of the Yukon Territorial Government to the following: THAT * There is a longstanding and severe housing crisis in Whitehorse, which with recent closures of housing units, promises to grow even greater * The Salvation Army Emergency Services shelter is overcapacity, providing long-term accommodation and in some case palliative care to individuals who have nowhere else to go * Northern City Supportive Housing Coalition has developed a strong and collaborative proposal, which will build 20 units of safe, healthy and supported housing for the most marginalized individuals in our community. * Northern City will reduce the strain on emergency services, such as ambulance, policing and hospital costs, saving the Yukon Territory money overall. THEREFORE we request that the Yukon Territorial Government, recognising the severity of the housing crisis in the City of Whitehorse, support the efforts of Northern City Supportive Housing Coalition to build 20 units of supported housing.
