Recently in Norfolk, Fr. Robert B. Kealey Council #3548 invited 100% pro-abortion, 100% pro homosexual marriage and 100%pro-homosexual adoption Gov. Terry McAuliffe to be the Grand Marshall of their St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday over the objections of their pastor, Fr. Dan Beeman, and their Bishop, Most Rev. Bishop DiLorenzo. This is totally incompatible with the order of the Knights of Columbus that stands for and defends Life and Marriage between One Man and one Woman. Also the order has a firm policy to not bestow honors on public officials who do not defend Life and Marriage.
But this is not the first time that Council #3548 has been rebellious. Last year council members invited 100% pro-abortion, 100% pro-homosexual marriage and 100% pro-homosexual adoption Lt. Gov.Ralph Northam to be their GrandMarshall. At the insistance of their pastor, they reluctantluy relented and chose the local Police Chief instead. But there have been many other actions by this Council over the years, big and small, that demonstrate that they do not, in fact, stand for Life or Marriage between One Man and OneWoman.
In addition, their longstanding St. Patrick's Day Parade, www.norfolkparade.com, does not in any way lift up St. Patrick and the tenets of the Catholic faith. Rather, the parade and public Knight's party afterwards is an ocassion for drunkenness and unsavory behavior of all types. The adjoining church parking lot is often turned into a litrine and a garbage dump.
Rather than being helpers to their priest, Council #3548 has been a constant thorn in his side. As a result of this latest Terry McAuliffe invitation and the council's longstanding opposition to cooperation with their parish, Fr. Beeman has terminated the council'srelationship with Holy Trinity Church.
I am now calling on my fellow Virgina Knights and all others to request that Council #3548 be formally terminated and disbanded as a council in the order of the Knights of Columbus. Clearly Council #3548 does not stand for the values of the order as they have so blatantly demonstrated. If you agree that Council #3548 should be formally terminated and disbanded, please sign this petition and please pass it on to others who feel likewise.

Sadly, I have resigned from the Knights after more than 20 years due this type of thing going on too often. my formal complaints have fallen on deaf ears. Good luck with this.
As the wife of a former Grand Knight, I believe it's past time for Councils to withdraw from the Knights until they put feet to their faith and discipline those who give grievous public scandal. If the Knights won't implement their charter, it's nothing but window dressing.
As a recruiter for the state I have heard nothing but protests against the council and know of two members that gave up their membership in protest. How can one say we are aggresively pro-life when they invite McAuliffe as Grand Marshal and gives him the honor that says the Knights stand behind him?
Council 3845 has brought discredit on the Knights and caused grave scandal. One would hope the Supreme Council will take swift and decisive action to rescind their charter or at least remove and expell the council officers.
Unfortunately the actions of Council 3548 have left a black eye on every Knight of Columbus that proudly supports their parish and stands in solidarity with thier Priest. It's a shame that those of us who work very hard in our community and parish are having to answer questions and defend our faith due to the irresponsible actions of 3548.
how could you REALLY!!!! "Get behind me Satan" as our Lord told St. Peter!! Take heed leaders of that council get with it and get your head out of your ass!!
I have signed the petition but would suggest that perhaps there are a great many Knights (Good Knights) in that council that had no say in the decision to invite this Govenor to be Grand Marshal of the Parade and in fact were probably against it. You know how few brothers attend the Council Business meetings every month as shown in our OWN Council meetings. It would seem to me that the Chair officers who were involved in this debacle should be the ones held responsible and removed from office and their memberships revoked in the Order and that the Virginia State Council complete an investigation into the process that took place ending in this BAD decision. Obtain a per member vote of their agreement or disagreement to this decision to get a feel for who was actually involved and who were passively included in the wrongful decision. It wouldn't seem fair to punish all for the actions of a few misguided officers/brothers. Just a thought in defense of the brothers who weren't cognizant of the decision process.

The Knights have handled this situation poorly thus far. Catholics outside the Knights' circle deserve an apology, as the Knights leadership has let them down. "Circling the wagons" and hoping everything will go away is not leadership, nor is it an effective strategy for dealing with this problem.
