Name: Lee A Dalzell on Dec 3, 2010Institution/Library (optional; will display):Comments (optional; will display): This is a small academic library with a one person technical services dept. There is no budget for training or implementing RDA at all! Next year there will be no budget, and for sure 2012 is worse. This is overpriced and unrealistic. I refuse to use RDA, I may use some provisions (spelling out ill or N.T. for example) but not the rest. When I retire, some other poor librarian can go back and change if they want. Besides, at this time, my ILS probably cannot handle RDA. My comments only, not my university's.Flag

Don't "legitimize" those test records in OCLC, and please don't mess with the authority files! The "training" I've had is all theory, no practice. We're not ready to implement this yet. (My opinion, not reflective of my institution.)Flag

Name: Felipe Tan on Dec 6, 2010Institution/Library (optional; will display): Andrews University / James White LibraryComments (optional; will display): While I appreciate the intention to update AACR2R, I see the changes brought up by RDA as overwhelming. If 300+ academic libraries of large institutions of a developed nation like the United States are complaining of the economic and manpower costs of shifting to RDA, what more of the academic libraries overseas which have meager financial and staffing resources. Even here in United States, it is not uncommon for catalogers to have multiple tasks in addition to cataloging. Too radical changes may bring chaos to many institutions all over the world. I hope the current discussion regarding RDA will lead to a win-win solution to everyone and to every institution.Flag

Name: Michael Walter on Dec 7, 2010Institution/Library (optional; will display): Indiana University LibrariesComments (optional; will display): A limited number of goals pursued by RDA address lacunae in AACR2 which need to be dealt with. However, a great number of changes proposed in RDA are frankly silly and obviously not well thought out. In addition, the method by which this alteration of cataloging practices is being "pushed down" reveals the intellectual and professional insecurity of its creators, who are more interested in making its implementation a fait accompli than they are in overseeing a substantial improvement upon those practices.Flag

This should continue to be standard policy for authority work even if RDA is adopted.Flag
