Poundland have submitted an application to Richmond Council to transform the 785sq m former Woolworths site in King Street, Twickenham into a pound store.

The proposals include the redecoration of the store, the shop front, the construction of a front sign and a "projecting" sign.

We urge the council to reject Poundland's application. A Poundland would be an eye-sore and a scar on the face of Twickenham, an area that was once home to thriving independent businesses.

Instead, the council should search for viable alternatives that fully benefit the local community and enhance Twickenham's desirability. For example, by converting the vacant lot into an indoor farmer's market.
