The petition

For more than 80% of the UK population, when phonebooks are delivered to your home they are either left out on the doorstep to ruin, or tucked away in a cupboard until the next one arrives. And with many boroughs offering limited recycling services, there's no guarantee that old books get recycled.

In addition to the enormous production and distribution resources expended annually on 75,000 million tonnes of phonebook waste, let's not forget that by the time a phonebook is delivered its already out of date. With thousands of families moving each week and hundreds of businesses closing, only an online directory can deliver truly current information.

Internet directories provide nationwide coverage, are easy to search, are updated daily, give the option of using for larger sized fonts, and most importantly, are free and available to anyone online.

Sign this petition against the automatic deliver of phonebooks and stop the waste.
