Name: Anonymous on Sep 3, 2009Comments: Infratil knew about the 106 agreement when they took on the airport. It should bide by this agreement and think itself lucky it has a 7am start up to 11pm. I think that is more than enough considering it already encroaches on sleeping hours. There will be no benefits for the local residents of Thanet by relaxing the agreement which was fought very hard for.Flag

Name: Brian Chapman on Sep 4, 2009Comments: The impact of night flights will be greater due to lower ambient noise levels at night, ie the perceived increase in noise as plans land or take off will be greater. In addition this is not a like for like request. The recent request for a temporary extension in times for aircraft movements included data on the current number of flights in and out of Manston, and these included all movements including light aircraft and those doing circuits and bumps (pilot training). This will not be the case within the extended time periods as late night or early morning will be larger and or heavy aircraft with the potential for greater noise and virbration. Living close to Manston it is not just the noise impact but also air disturbance after an aircraft has passed that causes distrubance.Flag

Name: Sheila Macdonald on Sep 8, 2009Comments: I am fully in favour of developing the commerce and industry of Thanet in a variety of ways. However, I am not at all convinced that night flights should be an integral part of this planning. We can learn from other towns under flight paths, and must think about the likely detrimental effect on tourism and leisure; I suspect that visitors would rather sleep in Broadstairs or elsewhere if this were to come in to force. I am concerned that the timetables will slip, and that delays and other unavoidable transport problems will override agreements on time; operators would rather pay the odd fine than lose their slot altogether.Flag
