Comments: In 1990 there were 94,700 manufacturing jobs and 96,200 government jobs in Maine. In 2009 there we were down to 52,600 manufacturing jobs in Maine. However, government jobs have grown to 101,900. There are now about twice as many people working for the government as people in the free market making and selling things. That is a lot of money that no longer comes into our state. We must improve the competitiveness of our State and one of the best ways is to reduce the tax burden. Raising taxes would be exactly the wrong thing to do.

Comments: To the Governor and Legislature of the Sate of Maine: Please consider the right thing to do for the people of Maine and do not raise taxes. You must reduce our out of control spending to a level that citiizens and business can afford. Current spending for Welfare programs is outrageous and way beyond our means. It must stop! Stop this insane liberal mindset NOW.

Comments: Government steals and redistributes productivity - keeping a significant portion to fund their adminstrative, employee, retirements, medical and other benefits. Maine cannot afford more government; it cannot even afford what we have now!

Comments: If there was ever a time not to raise taxes, fees, surcharges, etc. NOW IS THAT TIME. Any legislator who does not concur with this view deserves to be removed from office during the next election. And I hereby pledge to do everything humanly possible within my abilities to help facilitate such removal come next November.

Comments: The percent of Maine personal income required to fund state and local government has increased immensely since the 1970's and should be reduced even lower than the current projected revenues rather than increasing taxes.

Comments: My husband and I are Maine residents currently residing in GA due to Military duty but are still required to pay Maine taxes. I go home a few times a year and it's sad to see so many business shut down or going out of business or to hear of people struggling to hold onto their jobs, their homes and their families. As with any budget, there are only two ways to fill a gap. You must either lower your spending or increase your income. In the case of state budgeting, raising taxes is an easy way/ a quick fix to make more but I think if the leaders of Maine put some time aside to really think about a solution, they could find ways to spend less and avoid the need to make more. Throughout the country CEOs and other high ranking company leaders have taken pay cuts just to keep their businesses open. Pilots have agreed to volunteer their time for some of their flights in hopes of keeping the airlines alive which simply translates into they won't get paid for work they do. When faced with layoffs they all agreed a smaller paycheck was better then none. Is there no one in the government willing to do the same? Contrary to popular belief, soldiers are not rich. In fact they are some of the lowest paid people in the country with many on welfare. Yet these soldiers, these government workers, risk their lives daily so that other government officials can sit safely in their offices collecting paychecks for finding ways to raise taxes to fill gaps that they helped create. Our leaders need to take charge and make some necessary changes quickly before the State of Maine, like a business, ceases to thrive.

Comments: No more taxes. Cut entitlement programs and live within your budget. Don't spend what you don't have. Look at North Dakota and Texas budgets. Support small businesses instead of lobbyists and your self-interests. Step back from the global warming hoax. Green jobs are not sustainable and cost tons of money. Less govenment, please. Replace all members of congress and state legislators. We need people with common sense, not greedy corrupt deceiving reps. Step up to the plate or resign.

Comments: Just as families need to cut spending when they face reduced income, so the state needs to learn to live within its means. Stop raiding our pocketbooks to give to others. Be diligent in looking for ways to reduce spending.

Comments: We absolutely need long term private sector job creation here in Maine which means, reduction in government jobs, less taxes, and less government services! It is not complicated, just needs a little common sense and a fiecely strong backbone which has been sadly lacking for too long here in Maine!

When my past relitive on my dads side came here from Ireland, landing in wiscassett, then moving on to PA, he came here for freedom. If you look at the Declaration of Independence, you'll see his name, last on on the document, Mathew Thorton, He is our founders had a vision and being taxed to death was not one of them.God Bless America
