Name: Leda McDonald on May 5, 2010Comments: Perhaps before judging the dress of other cultures, we could take a closer look at the sexist articles of clothing that women in mainstream Canadian culture choose to wear. Brassieres, fake nails, and miniskirts can all reduce mobility and comfort, and all perpetuate sexist ideas of women as objects rather than subjective individuals. I know this comparison is a bit far-fetched, but there are many ways in which women choose to present themselves which limit their ability to take part in society. Restricting a woman's right to receive services to which she has a right because of the way she chooses to dress will only further isolate her.Flag

Name: Colin Rose on May 6, 2010Comments: This bill is an injustice to women, and alienates a specific portion (the Muslim portion) of the population. We all have the right to wear what we choose, and nobody should be discriminated against. You cannot force people to do your bidding!Flag

Name: Amanda Latimer on May 6, 2010Comments: Please know that, while respecting the right of Quebekers to determine their own laws and policies, I only respect it in so far is that right extends to ALL Quebekers. This is a colonial, racist piece of legislation, based on a trumped up confrontation between the ill-defined "values" of equally ill-defined "pure laine" and "newcomer" communities. Like the war in Afghanistan, the bill has NOTHING to do with "saving Muslim women." If that were the concern of legislators and all those who participated in the the "reasonable accommodations" debate, they might want to start by LISTENING to Muslim women, from communities (new and old to Canada) as they wade through their own issues. If the bill is made law, it will be an unjust one and I pray (non-secular faux pas intended) there is organized resistance to it. If this is part of a battle of the limitations of multiculturalism and who has the right to define what it means to be Canadian, GAME ON.Flag
