To the Editors at Playbill.com, Broadway.com, TheaterMania.com, Broadwayworld.com and any and all other Broadway-centric press outlets-

Those of us who are and have been Broadway professionals would ask you to stop calling non-union tours "Broadway"in your headlines and your press materials. These tours are being branded as "Broadway" despite the fact that the casts are non-union even while full Broadway ticket prices are being charged.

This week marked the observance of Labor Day- wouldn't it be nice if you stood up for the artists who helped create and maintain the artform from which you make your money?

"Broadway" used to mean that a show was top notch and employed the best professional talent in the business. It is now being used as a deceptive advertising "buzzword" which misleads audiences . Jobs are being taken away from professionals and tarnishing the reputation of touring shows in major markets across the country.

You do the theatre community/industry a huge disservice by legitimizing these non-Union shows on your websites and treating them as if they were the equal of Broadway shows utilizing professional and experienced performers.

We ask you identify all Non-Union tours as being such in either the headline or lead paragraph of articles about them that appear on your websites.

Broadway is NOT "Non Equity" and we encourage you to do the right thing and put the truth back in journalism by letting your readers know all the pertinent facts. By the standard being used, any theatre from a regional house to a community theatre would be able to call their production "Broadway".

In case you are not familiar with it, there is a truth is advertising law:http://www.ftc.gov/news-events/media-resources/truth-advertising

We believe there should also be truth in press releases, which are to a great degree non-paid advertising.

Thank you for reporting the truth about theatre and protecting national touring jobs for theatre union professionals.
