Name: Brian Cavanagh on Mar 29, 2005State: NYCountry: USComments: If mushroom factory is ever built, it would be an expensive albatross to remove. Officials will alienate their constituency if they rely on the distortion of need-based perception and approve the building of this plant. Unfair and vague question below: needs to be better phrased, as it lumps all officials together on this issue. I am well-read on this issue.Flag

It is shameful that despite having that power many Town Boards do not use it wisely. The true costs to Mamakating ,both economically and especially aesthetically, are not being assessed properly. The Town and Planning Boards should be far more skeptical and fact finding before letting these megaprojects come in. It is borderline mysterious as to why they don't want to know all the impacts. They are in positions of power to conserve and protect our heritage. The BashaKill in particular is vulnerable and I don't see nearly enough being done to protect it from harm.Flag

Name: Andy Garrison on Jul 17, 2005State: NYCountry: USComments: As I walk across the Ridge on the Shawangunk ridge trail I can only imagine how terrible that this plant would look. It is apperant that our town does not know this as they do not even mention the ridge trail on their homepage. The views in this area from the ridge will be scarred forever if this happensFlag

Name: Deborah Delia on Jul 26, 2005State: NYCountry: USComments: What about the smell this monster of a plant is supposed to emit every day Are we to live here gagging on ammonia covered by chocolate scents Why doesn't somebody travel to Japan and take a deep breath The impact this plant would have on the local environment would be reprehensible and irreversable. I cannot think of a bigger mistake that the planning board could make, than allow the vairiances it would take to build this plant. QUESTION: What building, 80'high, with a five acre footprint has no negative impact on the enviornment Answer: NONE Not to mention the water abuse. STOP THE INSANITY! IT'S NOT WORTH THE TRADE-OFF.Flag

Name: Nora Altavilla on Apr 25, 2006State: NYCountry:Comments: this proposed plant will use enormous amounts of water. It will generate enormous amounts of waste. Initially, in the building process, it may produce many good well paying jobs. However, when the construction is completed it will attract people who will accept low paying wages, which will infact overload and tax the infrastructure of the area. Especially the schools, and housing availability. Not to mention the impact of the unsightlyness of such a huge building on the picturesque Shwangunk Mountains. Which are a major attraction for tourists and locals as well.Flag
