Name: Jodi Rubenstein on Mar 24, 2005State: NYCountry: USComments: After careful consideration of the the FEIS prepared by YMMCA, I, a Mamakating community member, tax payer, and homeowner, conclude that their proposed actions will do more harm environmentally, socially, and economically than good. Their proposed actions will not counteract the impacts. In addition, I feel that YMMCA'S RESPONSES WERE DISMISSIVE AND ELUSIVE. THEIR RESPONSES TO OFFICIALS, PROFESSIONALS AND LAYMAN ALIKE WERE RIDDLED WITH A HIGH DEGREE OF ARROGANCE AND BOLD CERTITUDE WHICH WERE HIGHLY OFFENSIVE. My advice to the planning board is: don't get Mamakating involved in this project.Flag

Water is a precious asset and must be protected; the structure is too high, and the project invites sprawl which will forever alter the quality of life in the area.Flag

Name: Linda Gette on Mar 25, 2005State: NYCountry: USComments: Permitting the withdrawal of such quantities of water may jeopardize water supply for residents & other businesses. In addition, the applicant has implied that there will be antibiotics or other medicines in the water which is returned to the aquifer -- certainly something we need to absolutely prohibit in view of the public health concerns about medicines and supplements in the water supply.Flag

Name: Diana Bregman on Mar 25, 2005State:Country: USComments: Protecting water quality, and our important natural resources by requiring well thought out, and well regulated methods for development is the only way to ensure economic health and a high quaity of life for our historic and beautiful community. Don't let poor, weak and outdated planning and zoning laws and the failure to uphold the laws that do exist, to allow for short-sighted, destructive and narrow development gains that will damage and alter Mamakating so terribly. The the giant proposed Yakaguni Mushroom plant is exactly that...short-sighted and devastating. The destructive Yukaguni Pant, with it's narrow economic interests, extreme size, enormous thirst for our water not to mention the noise and traffic impacts it will have on us, will damage our natural resources and our residential areas beyond compare! This rampant, negative type of "growth" will only limit Sullivan County 's potential for the historic and unique towns of this region to grow in a beautiful, peaceful, well thought- out and ecomically sustainable way. Don't let industry or corporate interests like Yukaguni destroy the very resources that make our community great for their short-term gain which will benefit few while negatively effecting many. Yukaguni's negative impacts to our community must be stopped before it's too late! Let's let Sullivan County and mamakting grow into the 21 Century in a creative, healthy, community-oriented way that really benefits the lives of the people who call this lovely area home.Flag

Name: Patricia Eisenhart on Mar 25, 2005State: NYCountry: USComments: The 209 corridor is a unique natural area which should can support only eco-tourism related building and expansion. You have an area natural wonders so close to NYC. capitalize on that proximity. Train your citizens to be promoters and interpreters and service people to make the waters, geology, flora and fauna of your area accesible to the hundreds of thousands who don't have these treasures to enjoy everyday. Name: William Lucas on Mar 25, 2005State: NYCountry: USComments: Yukiguni has pressured town representatives with a faulty environmental impact study and the local Planning Board does not have sufficient knowledge of the very complex water and environmental issues to make the properly educated decision and appear to be siding with Yukiguni over the strenuous objections of most of town residents, county representatives, local congressman, and twenty of so local associations that protect the environment and resident rights. The planning board must now develop findings in support of their decisions - not a simple up or down vote - and will be LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE for their decisions and must be able to justify how they can ignore all the objections and find or a few monied interests behind this applicant in support of this misguided project which provides virtually no job value to the town of Mamakating and the PB members KNOW THIS!Flag

Name: Edward Agolia on Mar 25, 2005State:Country:Comments: This is but another form of enviromental degragation that hurt's a entire community and profits a few. And I think the water is not "free"so to speak. It is community water to be used for the benifit of the entire community. The affect is regional, therefore the water is "our" water and no one can but a price tag on it.Flag

Name: Joan Karalis on Mar 25, 2005State: NYCountry: USComments: I strongly urge that this plant not be allowed to be built. This will ruin the ecosystem of the bashakill, hence affecting plants, animals, humans and the beauty of the Bashakill and surrounding area. It is absurd that this movement is even being considered. All political persons involved in this matter, who have a say, should say "NO!!!" to the installation of a mushroom plant.Flag

Name: Gordon Gilbert on Mar 25, 2005State:Country:Comments: The proposed mushroom plant is a flagrant violation of existing zoning, too high, and it blocks the view of the ridge. Yukiguni must submit elevation drawings and perspective drawings (as required by law) to show the visual impact of their proposed building on the road (209) and the ridge. Further, Yukiguni must be required to work within the existing zoning. (Yukiguni's CEO admitted that the mushrooms smell like chocolate. Do we really want that pervading the valley)Flag

Someof those who spoke represent multitudes...ie, the NY-NJ Trail Conference, D & H Trail Conference, Basha Kill Area Assoc. Name: Carol Lucas on Mar 28, 2005State: NYCountry: USComments: Yukiguni can not be trusted to provide truthfull data on their water usage, plant renderings, actual job specifics, waste disposal or just how much of a negative impact their ugly, huge, windowless plant will have on the rural, scenic quality of our town. They only want our free water and are willing to manipulate the facts and take advantage of a weak planning board to get their way. This DEIS process should have been handled by the NY DEC who have the expertise and the standards needed to protect the town's residents. Say NO to this misguided project being pushed by a Japanese company that could care less about Mamakating residents. Carol LucasFlag

My home is directly adjacent to the D&H Canal tow path and not only is this project irresponsible in the short term but the negative impact on the beautiful rural character of this area will continue to be felt long after these small time politicians are dead and buried.I'm all for responsible growth but this is surely not the type of growth we need.Flag
