Name: Crowwolf on Jan 29, 2009Comments: Crimes should be punished, not glorified. All an re-enactment of the Land Run can do is portray to the public, and the children that a crime such as theft is ok. The school system would be better off if they explored history that was fair and just, instead of instilling values that say "if you want it, just take it, no matter who it harms".Flag

Name: Shelley Bluejay Pierce on Jan 29, 2009Comments: We, as a society, have continued to teach the next generations ENOUGH myths and falsehoods about a variety of subjects. Nowhere is that more true than in teaching about the Indigenous peoples in North America. The Oklahoma "Land Run" was one event in a laundry list of things that amounted to nothing less than the genocide of the American Indian people. Until the events in western history are portrayed accurately to the next generations, the TRUTH about what occurred for tribes here will continue to be an "elephant under the carpet." How long will we as a society leave that damned elephant under the rug! Stop these ridiculous reinactments of American history that left nothing but devastation behind. Teach the children and the general public the TRUTH!!!!!!Flag

Name: Martha Fanning on Jan 29, 2009Comments: Please stop re-enacting the Land Run in public schools and in communities in Oklahoma. Would it be posssible to create a study group, made up of or including Oklahoma American Indian educators , to come up with a curriculum for public schools, that teaches factual history of Indian Territory and Oklahoma Just some thoughts.Flag

Name: Christina on Jan 29, 2009Comments: I want to stop the Land Runs before they ruin our society and stop the truth from being told to our children. Our children deserve to learn our ways. We allow every other country that comes to the United States to teach their ways, but those of us who were here first are penalized for teaching our ways and even speaking our own language. Please, abolish the Land Run re-enactment held annually. Thank you.Flag
