Krystals is a lapdancing establishment which has opened in Chesterfield. Its website www.krystalsch.co.uk tells you all you need to know. It is a so-called "gentlemen's club" which is not likely to attract gentlemen but does, on the other hand, treat women as objects to be leered at and admired only for their sexual attractiveness. The website's pictures of breasts and buttocks (or tits & bums if you prefer) reduces women to the status of sex dolls. It can be argued that the women who work in such establishments are making their own choices but it must be unlikely that any woman would actually choose to take her clothes off and dance in front of strangers unless she were desperate for the money. A much better way would be to increase women's standards of living so that none would have to feel themselves forced to take part in something so unsavoury. From a ridiculously early age girls and women are expected to look pretty and sexy for men, while brains are considered to be unfeminine. How can women hope to achieve equality of opportunities and pay if they continue to be valued for their sexual attraction and availability rather than personality, hard work or talent? Licences can be revoked if a local authority licencing committee is persuaded that to do so would help prevent a public nuisance. We believe that lapdancing and strip clubs are a public nuisance. They demean all women as well as the men who frequent them. 

For the reasons given above, we the undersigned request Chesterfield Borugh Council to revoke Krystals' licence to run their establishment at the old Queen's Head on Glumangate, and to reject any future applications to operate similar clubs in the future.
