The solution we are calling for is instillation of a noise barrier. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s website, a barrier equal to 15’ would be sufficient for noise reduction. There are several options available for building material, including earth, concrete, masonry, wood or metal. For a longterm solution that can endure northwest weather, we recommend a concrete sound barrier. Additionally, to help alleviate psychological impact we encourage the planting of vegetation as recommended by the U.S. Dept. of Transportation. While these solutions do cost money, the health and wellbeing of neighborhood residents should come first.
