Name: Simone Nichol on May 28, 2009Comments: No Guns - This is a very serious issue of the rights indigenous people and their sovereignty versus racist colonial opportunity for racial profiling with the use of guns. This action is an obvious push for control and power using guns. When will non-indigenous people show RESPECT by listening to the Mohawk from Akwesasne community about their genuine concerns to avert any possibility of an escalation of violence with the possible tragic outcome of someone being killed. Guns do not represent peace, guns are dangerous and aggressive weapons. Mr Van Loan, would you like to travel across the border in the fear that you may be shot and killed This is shocking news that you feel that guns are a solution. There has to be a better solution that ensures 100% guarantee of 100% safety without the need for guns. LISTEN TO THE serious concerns that the Mohawk community of Akwesasne have about the use of guns. Mr Peter Van Loan MEET with the community and find out first hand what the concerns are!! You have a duty of care in your Ministerial capacity to do so.Flag

Name: Susan Turansky on May 28, 2009Comments: It would be a lot better if border guards had some training in how to diffuse tense situations without using arms. They need training in how to treat people with respect, how not to be racist and how to keep situations from escalating to physical violence. Guns will not help, they will only make things worse. People in a position of authority with a gun can be very dangerous.Flag

The resistance is the continuation of the battle of invasion by non indigenous peoples of the western hemisphere. When will we have international protest at the imperialist government capitals May our Gods be with us.!!! In solidarity!Flag

By empowering individuals to realize their true potential we will minimize the need for all the false divisions that have been created to keep peoples from their common ground.Flag

Name: Angela Bedolfe on May 28, 2009Comments: Since some CBSA have already been abusing a sovereign people whose land they are occupying, & now want to excalate the injustice by intimidating them & possibly killing them with firearms, it is imperative that these border agents refrain from their violence & arming themselves. They have been the belligerents, not the Mohawks.Flag

Name: Laurie Lowndes on May 28, 2009Comments: The RCMP/various City Police are out of control with their use of tasers. Now you want to give border guards guns This is a no brainer. Canadians do NOT want a police state. First Nations peoples are sovereign and should be left alone as per the treaties they have signed with the Queen. Border guards should not qualify for guns, especially as they are described as "Peacekeepers," not military.Flag
