Name: Hayden Lutterloh on Apr 27, 2003State: NCCountry: USComments: Dollars cannot be compared to lives, although many try to show it - - is one life worth one firehouse -- is one child in its crib worth removing an engine or truck company - I have been in the service for 28 years and can advise from experience - time and manpower do count and make a difference as to lives saved or lost. Don't allow politics to dictate life safety. how soon we forget the needs shown across our country and now in New York - firefighters are our first line of defense - Troops and law enforcement are needed, yes, but who gets the first call, who answers that call unswervingly - the firefighters. God Bless them all!!! And God forgive those who sacrifice lives in exchange for dollars.Flag

Name: Lynn Caufield-Dripps on Apr 27, 2003State: PACountry: USComments: Does the Mayor plan on closing any firehouses near his residence I doubt it.Does he know how much longer response time will be when those firehouses close. And does he realise how much harder the firefighters will have to work just to keep up. Not to mention the lives that will be lost because it will take longer to get to the fires. How quickly he has forgotten 9/11. He has obviously never really known how important our firefighters are. Peoples lives are a lot more important than the budget Mr. Mayor. God Bless our firefighters and keep up the good fight. We are with you.Flag

Name: Frank Welsh on May 12, 2003State: NHCountry: USComments: Every time I see the skyline of NYC sans the Towers of the WTC, I remember where I was the day they were taken from us. Every time I see a picture, TV show or movie with the towers, I remember where I was that day. Everytime I remember where I was that day, I remember going home to my wife at the end of the day; I think of the members of FDNY, NYPD, PAPD and NYCEMS that didn't have the luxury of returning to their wives, husbands, children, parents, brothers or sisters on 11 Sept. 01. I cry for them; I grieve for their families from northern NH. Keep the NYC public safety community strong for the protection of it's citizens and those dedicated to protecting them.Flag

Name: Wells P. Wilson on May 12, 2003State: NJCountry: USComments: People need to realize the fire department is the only "business" that is working hard to put itself OUT of business. When our firefighters are not inside a burning building or helping to contain a dangerouse situation they are out in other buildings talking to owner, teaching children and actively working to PREVENT the very thing that keeps them around. Even if there are less fires, the role the the FDNY, and every Fire department in any major city plays a crucial role in keeping that fire risk low. We NEED these firehouses and we NEED these men and women to be there to help us. . .no questions asked.Flag

Mayor Bloomberg may be a good businessman, but that does not mean he will make a good mayor. He obviously does not know much about public safety, for, if he did, this would not even be an issue.Flag

Name: John Hinant on May 13, 2003State: VACountry: USComments: You do not cut the department that is doing all the work. Cutting the FDNY is not the best idea. These members of this department as well as the NYFD are the back bone of your city. These people are your first responders that are always there when others aren't. If these folks hadn't been at the trade center incident, there would have been many more deaths. Think this over Pal, find something else to cut, not the Fire or Police Departments. I knew five members of FDNY who died while others could live.Flag
