Name: Steve And Bobbie Stanic on Feb 16, 2013Comments: Incorporation has brought us? higher taxes, double and triple car tag costs, increase franchise fees, business privilege taxes, and several new levels of an unneeded growing bureaucracy that is providing no benefits and never will. A promise of federal money, there is none, the country is broke. A city that uses the police force solely to generate revenue. The result is a police force that is losing the support of the community and that will lead to it being ineffectual. A mayor that has outright misinformed Diamondhead’s residents. A mayor that on numerous occasions allowed the city manager personnel use of a Diamondhead police car to travel to and from work from his residence in the Gulfport Biloxi area. (This would still be going on if some residents in the area had not alerted a number of us). A city manager that has been fired from at least one coastal city manager’s job. The city supporters and council members who have no idea that taxes are based on a percentage of the evaluation and don’t care. They were incapable of making any kind of estimates as to how much revenue might be needed to run a city, and again didn’t care. Did they even take high school math? They have a misguided personal view of how a city must function and what the residents of Diamondhead want in a city structure and services. They cannot logically show, in their misguided view, the benefits of Diamondhead becoming a city. The concept of Diamondhead as a city was sold to its residences by the old guard who finally found a way to feed at the public trough. In a recent Sun Herald story the mayor said there were hundreds of ordnances still to be passed, What for? They are only required to generate revenue to help pay the salary of the old guard. A lot of people moved to Diamondhead because it was not burdened by a cities’ taxes and bureaucracy. All Diamondhead residences had better quickly wake up and get involved in the upcoming election or these misguided, misplaced, uninformed, uneducated, and lack of any experience council and mayor will continue to feed at the public trough. As before, they will misrepresent themselves and their platforms to get reelected. We must choose and elect a council and a mayor that understand that they do not have an unlimited source of funds. Oh yes and get rid the present city manager. Remember every time the taxes go up, car tags also go up. Where is all this money going? I hope the states’ department of justice is watching this closely. At least we can still buy 32 oz. sodas.Flag

Name: Keith Jester on Feb 17, 2013Comments: Knew this would happen...Diamondhead POA never disclosed both sides of the issue when they were trying to get us to sign the petition to incorporate, was all one sided and very pro incorporation. I even asked a POA representative who came to my door one evening (trying to get me to sign & also contrary to the no- solicitation policy...guess can be ignored by POA) this very question about city taxes off setting POA dues. He could not answer. So I refused to sign the petition to incorporate. Told him the POA should present all facts...not the ones they just wanted us to hear. We should disccolve either the POA or City.Flag

Name: Tom Laird on Feb 18, 2013Comments: If I wanted to live in a city I would have moved to a city. We only been here a couple of years and I am very disappointed with the move to become a city. I bought two car tags the other day and I really ejoyed paying more for them. And our services are the same except for the police handing out tickets.Flag

Name: Liz on Feb 21, 2013Comments: Residents of Diamondhead, lets' stop the money bleed now! Call and write to the Mayor and council members. NO MORE SPENDING! Until after the election on May 7th. This appointed government body is out of control. They are moving way to fast with tax payer monies and creating liabilities that could cause bankruptcy. Their is no transparency in the City of Diamondhead government. First, they take away our suburban neighborhoods and now charge us taxes for amenities we were already paying for. There is nothing the City of Diamondhead government can give us that we already didn't have. What they have given us is heartaches and headaches!Flag

Name: Janis Floyd on Feb 28, 2013Comments: The elections are soon. Let's get these folks out and put some new people in who will take a new vote as to whether we should be a city. These "volunteers" (unelected) have made huge decisions that will affect us for years to come, and as we see, in a negative way. Let' s fix this mistake.Flag

Name: Patches Rhode on Mar 10, 2013Comments: We want our community back...DISSOLVE the city NOW, it is time for a coup d'etat...most of us moved here to enjoy the small 'town' community of Diamondhead; the convenience of locality between New Orleans and Biloxi, the relative safety, the ability to utilize our assets (pools, golf, tennis, etc.). We had our issues such as: the forced endurance of the ever increasing cost of the Diamondhead S & W monopoly (where any resident choosing to install a well will be forced to do without sewer and the sewer cost is a minimum of $40 monthly without ever flushing a toilet), the ever increasing cost of POA dues to subsidize the golfers (with a net loss averaging ($500,000) over the last 5years), and the un-equal application of POA covenants. NOW with the new city government we must still endure the above referenced issues and now have added CITY TAX - minimal decrease in POA dues (created a hardship for the elderly on fixed incomes, basically a double tax on the residents with POA dues), overzealous city police who make our community less safe (constant need to maneuver around traffic stopped vehicles for busted tag lights, etc.), and the PUSH to use residential property for commercial use (a casino in the residential area of the south side)..to name just a few. Make the CITY go away and give us our COMMUNITY back...then we can re-vamp the POA beginning with full disclosure, open meetings on every issues (except personnel discipline (executive session allowed)), transparency of ALL financials and community decisions. The board is elected to protect us not to become a secret society with backroom dealings designed to control us.Flag

What we need is less government in Diamondhead and more common sense and people that know math to lead us forward.. Definately dissolve the city and tighten the reins on the POA.Flag
