The new city of Diamondhead has become exactly what opponents to the incorporation petition feared; a runaway train of unnecessary expenses, ordinances, taxes, fees and licenses controlled by a group that has no sense of responsibility for the good of the entire community. Businesses are being negatively impacted, longtime residents are being forced to move out of the community they helped build and young families are reconsidering the rationality of their decision to start a family in the community. All due to a tax structure imposed by what was promised to be a temporary slate of city officials. The result is a decline of property values as few wish to pay exorbitant taxes and fees for little or no services in return.
