Welcome to Fremont. Or rather, the Weibel-Warm Springs District. Your regular suburban community is getting something new in the following years: a ballpark! Who cares about the thousands of cars who will travel through our thoroughfares to come watch games Who cares about the traffic congestion, accidents, and possibly higher crime rates resulting from this construction Who cares about the dozens of late, drunk fans wandering through a neighboring elementary school Who cares about parking headaches Not owner Lewis Wolff. But as residents living in Fremont, we do. Of course, Fremont does have quite a few vacant lots, but a $400 million ballpark in the middle of a community isn't the most productive way to use it. Especially with our transportation infrastructure not capable of handling such high volumes of traffic, this ballpark shouldn't be located at Warm Springs Blvd./Osgood Road at all! Even if the Auto Mall location is selected, with Pacific Commons (Outdoor Mall at Auto Mall Blvd. near I-880) using strong lawyers against it, we will still be subjected to higher rates of crime, higher congestion rates, and all the consequences following that. Rest assured, most of them are detrimental. Whenever you go to any baseball game, the parking lot is almost always filled. Even with BART across the street, how many of the thirty something thousand of people will actually use it Also, with the new houses and condominiums they plan to build, how are our schools going to handle the influx of students How much more do we need to pay, as taxpayers, for additional police officers Will we be able to deal with the larger amounts of emmitted greenhouse gasses - again, next to two parks and an elementary school If an earthquake happens on the Hayward Fault less than a quarter mile away, how will evacuation be handled These things shouldn't be rushed - thinking "OMG ITS A BALLPARK STADIUM ACROSS THE STREET! Let's build it RIGHT NOW!" could be deadly. Remember, even if you live outside Fremont, think of the impact it will have on both the residents and you. The A's Ballpark stadium may seem to be a good source of revenue, but the hidden pricetags behind it are too great. Speak up to the city council against the new location of the A's Ballpark Stadium at Osgood Rd./Warm Springs Blvd. If you are simply against the plan, join this group today! Even if you don't live in Fremont, the SF Bay Area, or even California, you can help support us in our belief by signing this petition
