The petition
I know many of you will relate to my life and its struggles as a single parent. I am a single parent with no additional child support income, physical or emotional support from my other half, I am solely responsible for my household. I barely make ends meet with the high rents, gas, grocery bills, medical bills, medical/car insurance, car payments and basic necessities for myself and my child, I make now what I was making in 2001, which is significantly less coupled with the ever increasing cost of living.
TO THE GUSD - I ask... What has happened to the “No Child Left Behind” motto?
IT'S NOT FAIR to think that there is a way for us to make it work, we can’t, we don't have the money or the resources.
PREDICTION - Enrollment becomes low; Layoffs of teachers; programs shut down, children are now directly in the face of danger.
DANGER IN THE MAKING - Kids are forced to walk home from school now and sit at home waiting for either parent to finish work, despite how much we teach our kids to be safe there are always the possibilities that something could happen. Pedophiles are at large and we as parents can only hope that we have taught our kids to be aware of who is around them at all times. Is money that important that you would force parents to take risks like this. It appears that money and the value the GUSD places on it over the safety of our kids is DISGRACEFUL and SHAMEFUL.
Not only is it unfair and outrageous that you are hiking up your prices on a quarterly basis but NOW its a flat price of $205.00 a week when off track, with no option of a half day. Our kids are now being forced into smaller quarters when the current quarters can't even handle the capacity it has right now - IS THIS showing us that the program is benefiting from the increased prices - IT'S NOT... THIS ADDITIONAL CHANGE IN LOCATION HAS OUTRAGED AND ANNOYED us more.
I would like to know what has changed in these programs since increasing the fees. IT APPEARS NOTHING. By telling us that the standard of care is "EXCELLENT" and that the costs have to be increased to maintain that level is the very last time that I want to hear those words - they are LIES - When my daughter broke her elbow (double fracture) last September and I never received a call to advise me she was injured - is that the EXCELLENT care you are talking about? Is an Iced Water Bottle sufficient medical care? The GUSD fell below the standard of care then and what makes you think that we can believe anything will change?
Not only do the children suffer from no school program to attend after school, but now you have created unemployment and taken a teacher's livlihood away.
PARENTS - Unless steps are taken to find a resolution to their increasing costs, we will have no choice but to find a cheaper alternatives than the school district. We should not be forced to pay a public school system up to $820 a month per child and more off track. Let's find a way to bring this matter to our congressman and eventually before Sacramento if needed.
Despite the fact that GUSD is government entity, it is a public school system, and it needs to find ways to get additional funding to keep the costs down and the programs open.
I have suggested donations in the form of supplies, snacks, and even my time but I was told that I had to be certified to offer my time. How ridiculous is that, parents are offering to help and we are being told no thanks.
In closing, let's get enough signatures behind us so that we can force the School District to find way to keep this program available to our kids at a price WE CAN AFFORD so we don’t have to put them with a sitter who then in turn will have them in front of a TV all day or walking the streets in these times.
