The uppercoming freshman for the class of 2010 are required to take the 10 grade ISTEP. They are to pass both the math and language arts portion of the test. If they fail the test they must take it again in the 11th grade. If they are unable to pass the test by the time they are in the 12 grade they have to choices which are to drop out and get their g.e.d. from a schooling program or to accept a certificate of completion which is not a diploma. If they take the certificate of completion they will never get their high school diploma or a G.E.D. This is unfair to the freshman because they have already had 8 years of schooling. These requirements need to be started out at a younger age for this program to succeed.

Total garbage rule. Start teaching this stuff in elementary if you want them to pass later. Dont punish the kids for a broken system.

This is so unfair. My son is a good student but he freezes up during these big tests. Why should his whole future be ruined over one bad day?
