This is a small step for cheesecake servers to stand up against their forever dreaded stand-by shifts! Last time i checked i didn't go to school for 8 years and become a doctor! No, instead i went to a two week training class to become a server at cheesecake factory! For some reason though I, along with all other servers, have a stand-by shift every other week or more! Planning around this is not an option ...I can't tell another job that I may be able to work but i can't let them know until 11am or 5pm. the day of. For those with no other job making money on that day is not an option either. We either end up with a horribly under-paid foodrun shift, some banquette shift, or no shift at all! And for no other reason than to cover the managers arse for hiring an unreliable person. I say DO AWAY WITH STAND-BY'S. the economy is tight and if you don't want to make money then fine but I DO!!!!
