Whereas, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 134 (IBEW Local 134) is the driving force and the gold standard in the electrical industry in Chicago and Cook County Illinois; and
Whereas, IBEW Local 134 has provided the best trained and most professional workforce to Chicago and Cook County for more than 100 years; and
Whereas, IBEW Local 134 has fought for and gained a respectable middle class wage and benefit package for the members consistently for over 100 years; and
Whereas, IBEW Local 134 also sets the standard for all building trades in Chicago and Cook County; and
Whereas, IBEW Local 134 and it’s signatory contractors control 70-80% of all electrical work in Chicago and Cook County; and
Whereas, IBEW Local 134 is at this time experiencing greater than 20% unemployment; therefore be it
Resolved, the membership of IBEW Local 134 does recognize the need to organize every electrical worker in Chicago and Cook County but does not believe a multi tier wage scale is the way to accomplish this; and be it finally
Resolved, that the membership of IBEW Local 134 opposes the CE/CW Classifications being imposed in our jurisdiction.
