Name: Jayne Kelly on Jul 17, 2007Comments: Once again a tax on motorists, many of whom cannot afford to buy a house in Cambridge, and will now be penalised for working there. The cost of living in the Cambridge area is pretty expensive as it is, this will only make it more so.Flag

Name: Zoe Brown on Jul 17, 2007Comments: As I was born in Cambridge and lived for years near the city centre I am horrified to hear of potential congestion charges. Why should I be penalised when coming back to visit friends and family! The central car parks already charge outrageous prices, as do the on street ticket machines and this has only been highlightened even more compared to parking prices in Birmingham - a much larger city!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jul 17, 2007Comments: Maybe if there was a bus service to and from Willingham that was efficient, regular and inexpensive for my daughter to get to work, I would not need to drive into the center of Cambridge during these times.Flag

Name: Quick Charles on Jul 17, 2007Comments: I don't drive yet, but this would be yet another reason not to. I am disgusted by the idea of congestion charges in Cambridge, I seriously doubt it will have any positive effect on my life. It sounds like just another way of getting more money out people. I hope it fails.Flag

Name: Kerrie Green on Jul 17, 2007Comments: I have to commute in every morning to the Fen estate in Chesterton. The Park and Ride is not far out of town enough for it to be worth parking up to use the bus and no bus goes close enough to our place of work anyway. For, what is effectivly a 2 minute drive for me and my husband (we work together and therefore car share) we would be charged an extraFlag

Name: Anonymous on Jul 17, 2007Comments: if you can get me from Godmanchester to Cambridge in a reasonable time-frame by 8am, i'd be more thn happy to take public transport to work. However, as there is no convenient option available simply hitting commuters like myself with a CC/road pricing charge is unfair and immoral. The only reason i don't live nearer to work is because i can't afford a house in Cambridge, now you want to charge me just to come to work and help the City economy! I'd seriously have to consider working elsewhere.Flag

Name: Emma Booth on Jul 17, 2007Comments: I often visit Cambridge to go shopping and to visit friends. There are no decent links into Cambridge. It takes over an hour on the bus from Cambridge to Huntingdon. Therefore normally I drive in. Rather than charging people for going into the centre of Cambridge. Why don't you spend money on re-opening the rail link between Huntingdon and Cambridge. This would encourage the people that live in Huntingdon and St Ives to get the train to work. More people would use a train service than a guided bus service. How are the people who work in Cambridge expected to get to work when the public transport links into Cambridge are so bad.Flag

Name: Jamie Porter on Jul 17, 2007Comments: Since the congestion charge was introduced in London I have not been into the charging area and all the businesses have lost my custom. I will do the same to Cambridge. If you don't want my custom I will take it to somewhere convenient to me, Tesco's seems to be a very successful business and guess what Access is always easy and parking free, I wonder why they are so successful I also note that Royston increased its parking charges and the number of tickets sold fell and now Royston has a large number of empty shops, I suppose that this could be a coincidence but I doubt it. Why not try something imaginative so people can still get around and do business why not reduce the number of parking places in the center if people cant park they will find other means of transport, they have to or just pedestrianize the whole center of the city . Then offer only very short term parking in the center. With a congestion charge they just pay it and eventually congestion gets back to the same level as it has done in London, it is just another way of raising taxes increasing the road miles people do as they go to out of town stores to get free parking and placing another burden on Business.Flag

Name: Derek Reynolds on Jul 17, 2007Comments: Congestion charging creates antipathy, penalises businesses and locals. Fiscal benefits must be weighed against the cost of administration as well as the alienating of residents and business. NO charging for Cambridge.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jul 17, 2007Comments: I Travel to Cambridge from Surrey to visit a housebound elderly (in 90,s) lady. She is not a relative but someone I got to know when I started work as a young lad in the 1950,s. I know she looks forward to my visits several times a year. I myself am a pensioner, the cost of fuel to travel by car is more than I can afford already. If a congestion charge is introduced I will no longer come to Cambridge. I will not suffer as a result BUT an old friend willFlag
