Access to Singers Lane off La Trobe Street is to be blocked due to the erection of a construction hoist in relation to the works at 330-350 William Street. It will remain for a period of 2 and a half years. Future 3000 opposes this blockage for the following reasons: - As a matter of principle, Singers Lane is a public laneway and should remain available for public use - No alternative pedestrian route to William Street will be provided across the 330-350 William Street site during the construction period - The blockage will result in a loss of truck access off La Trobe Street via Singers Lane, only relatively small trucks and vans will be able to gain access off Wills Street. This may cause considerable extra cost for individuals moving in and out of the Wills Court building as parking by the front entrance is not available, and even if it was, deliveries and removals via this entrance would be highly disruptive and unsightly. Future 3000 is calling for this decision, made by the City of Melbourne, to be rescinded and for access by construction vehicles to the 330-350 William Street site along Singers Lane to be prohibited for the duration of the construction period. Please support our opposition to this blockage by signing this petition. Future 3000 will then forward the collective response to the Melbourne City Council by no later than 30 April 2011.
