THIS PETITION IS FOR DENIAL OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS VAR-30620, SDR-30614 & MOD-30617 at the southwest corner of Cliff Shadows Parkway and the 215 Beltway as explained below: The International Church of Las Vegas is proposing to build an 89,550 square-foot church with an 85-foot tower at Cliff Shadows Parkway and the 215 Beltway. The name of the proposed church is Prayer Mountain. The Las Vegas City Council will vote on 4-1-09 (NEW DATE!) on whether to approve the City Planning Commission's recommendations to allow this large building to be built. We would like the City Council and Mayor to know we oppose the modifications and variances needed for such a large building. City staff recommended denial of the height variance, because the local law, called the Hillside Ordinance, bans buildings over 35 feet. When the church purchased this land in 2005, the Lone Mountain West Master Plan did not allow buildings over 2 stories and this land was designated as Low Density Residential and Park/School/Recreation/Open Space. Most homeowners in this area have purchased their homes without any knowledge of the possibility of this project because the building requires 6 separate variances and modifications to existing law in order to be built in this location. Upon reviewing the church's link provided in the right column, you will see all the other services that will be provided by this church and the possible traffic implications as a result. 1) I am opposed to VAR-30620: a variance to allow an 85-foot tall building where two stories or 35 feet is the maximum permitted and to allow a site disturbance of 3.78 acres where 3.56 is the maximum permitted at a site approximately 660 feet west of the southwest corner of Cliff Shadows Parkway and the 215 Beltway. 2) I am opposed to SDR-30614: a Site Development Plan Review for a proposed Five-Story, 89,550 square-foot church/house of worship with waivers of the Lone Mountain West Wall and Landscape Standards. 3) I am opposed to MOD-30617: a request for major modification to the Lone Mountain West Plan to amend the land use designation from: L (Low density residential) and P (Park/School/Recreation/Open Space) to: PF (Public Facilities).
