We the parents, employees and residents of the Bethel School district request that plans to erect antennae on schools in the district be stopped immediately. We are disturbed by the lack of notification regarding antennae being erected in the District and the lack of research completed regarding the future health of our children. 1. Information regarding the contract and/or meetings to decide the contract were not well advertised. Very few, if any parents were aware of this plan. 2. Due diligence with regards to health and safety issues has NOT been completed. There have been NO independent tests done on the long term effects of these towers on the developing brain of a child. 3. Upon signing the contract with Clearwire information AGAIN was not shared in a transparent manner. 4. As of the drafting of this petition there STILL has not been adequate information sent out to any parent or staff member. 5. Possible consequences to adding these towers to schools despite our clear dislike of the situation can result in future lawsuits, removal of children from affected schools and/or removal of children from the school district. A quick online search will reveal many different, fact based, independent articles revealing the possible hazards behind towers like these. Even more articles discuss the unknown potential for harm from long term exposure. The truth is that NO ONE has done the research. There are NO studies discussing the health effects of long term (6.5 hours per day, 5 days per week for up to 12 years) exposure on the developing brains of children. We do not want our children to be the guinea pigs for such research. We refuse to risk the health of our children for an extra $1,300 per month for the school district. We demand that erection of these towers stop now. We demand that the school district put better policies in place to notify parents of important issues within the school district and that these notices be completely transparent in the future.
