We are all here undersigned, express our indignation US Department of State’s decision to award the Kyrgyz transitive President Roza Otunbaeva with International Woman of Courage Award. The prestigious women’s prize still accrue only to those who had always been at the frontline of struggle for fundamental rights and freedoms, for the first time goes to the head of state. The state where: - it is itself a major violator of its own laws; - the people twice within a decade overthrew the government but it passes from hands of some criminals in the hands of others; - every day are grossly violated the fundamental rights of its citizens; And finally, the state in which systematically occuring the crimes against humanity by nationality. Perhaps Mrs Otunbaeva is the best candidate for the award this year, but not head of state who did not prevent death and suffering of thousands of people at the hands of bandits and the state’s law enforcement bodies. Therefore, we urge the US Department of State in time to abandon the intention to honor the head of the transitional government as a sign of respect to the memory of hundreds killed during the ethnic cleansing in southern Kyrgyzstan. Instead, we urge to encourage outstanding women, human rights defenders of Kyrgyzstan for their heroism, supporting civil society of this country and democracy and not to violate the glorious tradition of awarding this prestigious prize.
