Name: Cheryl Boisvert on May 16, 2007Comments: Having to make HWY 540 a toll road is a direct sign that NC does not know how to manage it's funds! It should never have been built if it could not be paid for. NO TO TOLLS ON 540!!Flag

Name: Jon Gerler on May 16, 2007Comments: Absolutely no tolls on 540...ridiculous. The NCDOT wastes money on negligent contractors and frivolous spending and then expects John Q. Taxpayer to foot the bill. No sir...this will not stand.Flag

Name: Anonymous on May 16, 2007Comments: We pay so many different taxes in this state, the government should be able to better manage their money. Besides, tolls are a northern thing. There are no tolls out west or down here, and that's the way it should stay, even if it takes longer to complete the project. Wake County needs to really work on managing growth, they get an F- from me on this- which is evident from the heavy traffic and school overcrowding problems. A lot of places in our country manage growth successfully, we should be able to as well.Flag

Name: Shawna Neill on May 16, 2007Comments: I am so tired of all the taxes that I pay that are being wasted do to mismanagement or misuse. I think we as a country have passed the point of unfair taxation. In NC my money is taxed when I earn it and taxed when I spend it and all I get in return is more taxes. The toll road is a bad idea because when the road was proposed the money should have been put aside and not been used of other projects.Flag

Name: Elisha Tate Corney on May 16, 2007Comments: Why do we have high fuel tax AND tolls. It doesn't make sense to toll beltlines, especially a section of a beltline. And it definitely doesn't make sense to break up the 540 loop into small sections divided by toll barriers (defeats the idea of getting around quickly and easily). I'd rather wait for 540 as it was planned and without tolls.Flag

Name: Dug Wilson on May 16, 2007Comments: 540 shouldn't be a toll road. Plain and simple. the possibility of this outcome, highlights the inability of our leaders to properly fund the infrastructure to support the area's growth. Is 485 in Charlotte a toll road How about 285 in Georgia Finish 540, but do it right!Flag

Keep your hands out of the fuel tax fund and put it toward building roads not pet projects.Flag

We pay for the roads in the state with taxes,we shouldnt have to also pay a toll. 95 is ideal for travelers going thru the state to pay the toll., which would also help with the maintenance and construction of our roads.Flag

Name: Chris Hanburger on May 16, 2007Comments: To make the people of Western Wake county pay extra for the constant mis-appropriation of funds by these fools in Raleigh is unjust. 540 is needed and it is ridiculous and unfair to build this "loop" and expect a certain area to pay tolls. Why is our need for traffic congestion relief seen as a personal problem of the folks of Apex, Cary, Holly Springs, Fuquay Varina, Green Level, etc. The state needs to look elsewhere for "toll money". It's not a toll folks, it's an extension of the taxes we've been paying for years and it's unfair and should be illegal. Wake Up Wake County Gov!!!!Flag

Name: Charles E Reeher on May 16, 2007Comments: I agree. This part of I540 has already been paid for by tax money. If the NCDOT had better internal checks and balances so money is not wasted, thet/we would not have this problem. It seems to me that the NCDOT is as bad at planning for the growth as the WCPPS. The growth in Wake County has been going on for years and this is their solution. I have whole bunch ideas to help, but then again I am not a highway engineer, so what would I know!! I only commute on the I 40 Parking lot everyday..Flag

Name: Jason Young on May 17, 2007Comments: Instead of further taxing of voters, why not look for money in your own pockets. I bet if you guys just put 2 out of every 3 bribes into the treasury that we'd have plenty of money. I wonder if any of our good ol'boys know how to balance their own checkbook, why are they trusted with our tax dollars I applaude the Apex leaders (who have the most to gain from the road being completed early) for voting against Tolls on 540. Why not put it up for wake county residents to vote onFlag
