Name: Anonymous on May 15, 2007Comments: The western part of the county should not have to pay a toll when they are already taxed for building roads. These people are the moslty of the lower echleon of the middle class and they have young children, and have to travel to their jobs every day. The gas prices have already reduced their income and they are strugglying to pay their daily bills. They should not be made to pay a toll going to and comiing from work everyday. Who are you people trying to helpanywayFlag

Name: Carey Denning on May 15, 2007Comments: I do not agree with having tolls on 540. If there has to be a toll, why not put it in north raleigh on the finished portion of 540 so that the money can be raised to build the section on the west/south side of wake county. Then once this west/south section is finished the tolls should go away from the entire highway.Flag

Name: Wm H Shamblin Jr on May 15, 2007Comments: I am against turning existing roads into toll roads. We have already paid for them, and the gas tax is supposed to maintain them. THAT was the promise when they were built. NEW toll roads are fine with me IF they are paid for solely from the tolls.Flag

Name: Nathan Miller on May 15, 2007Comments: If they start tolling the road, they won't ever stop. It will just go on forever. Government gets addicted on the taxes and fees it collects. The best way to break the habit is never to start.Flag

Name: Scott B on May 15, 2007Comments: I grew up in upstate New York, where they built the New York Turnpike with the promise that tolls would be removed when the highway was paid for. The bonds were finally paid off in 1997, and what happened Yes, the NY State legislature voted to keep the tolls in place! The same thing will happen here; the state gov't couldn't stand to lose a guaranteed revenue source. The best answer is to stop the tolls before they start! You have my vote.Flag

Name: Anonymous on May 15, 2007Comments: I strrongly agree. Why were the northern and eastern sections of 540 built without any mention of a toll road and now people who will use the southwest section stuck wiht the bill. I am sure the median income of people living closer to the north west loop have a much higher median income. Why is the mayor of Cary strangely silent on this topic He certainly does not want to slow down the building craze along the 55 corridor.Flag

Name: Jeffrey D. Watson on May 15, 2007Comments: I-540 is either *all* toll or no-toll. You can't take some of the taxpayers twice. We dump tea in Boston Harbor over this... we'll do it again. Make a toll-road, be sure it will be the least traveled road in all of Wake County. I only hope the Legislature can hold responsible those who made the decision and the implementation.Flag
