STOP US HORSE SLAUGHTER!!!

Roughly 65,000 American horses are killed cruelly in one of the three foreign-owned horse slaughter plants that operate in the United States each year. Up to date, in the last 24 years 3,929,426 horses have been murdered in the United States and Canada alone.
Before the slaughterhouse, the horses have to go through a slaughter auction. These horses are not all injured, old and unable to work, many of them are young and ridable some of which are: pregnant mares, mares with foals, stallions, former racehorses (some which have raced up to 226 times), camp horses, Amish workhorses and even children’s ponies.
After being purchased, they are either sent straight to slaughter houses or, if they are mares, sent to live on Premarin farms. At the Premarin ranches, the pregnant mares live in cramped “stalls” and are pregnant for most of their lives. All of this is for the drug, Premarin, which is a drug for women to help prevent osteoporosis and to help lessen the effects of menopause. After they have foaled, their foals stay with them for only 3 months before being sent through a slaughter auction. If the mare foals a filly it has a 1 in 20 chance of living, but if she foals a colt it has a 1 in 50 chance of living.
The other horses that are not mares are generally sent straight to slaughterhouses. They are trailered for hours and hours upon end without food, water, or time to get out and stretch their legs. When the horses reach the slaughterhouses, they are either extremely dehydrated, unable to stand anymore, or dead. They are then moved into the slaughterhouse “paddocks” which also have no food or water and have dangers in the “paddocks” themselves, such as rusty nails or barbed wire on the ground. Many researchers say that a horse would die a less painful death by starvation then they would by slaughter in slaughterhouses. When it comes time for the actual execution, the horses are murdered in sickening ways such as being hacked to death by axes or having a spike similar to the ones used to nail down railroads driven through their heads. The spike does not normally kill them, but just paralyses them so they cannot move are unable to escape. When these methods are used, the horses are not even stunned first, they are just left to face the pain. A witness at a slaughter house describes the process as this:
Some desperately tried to escape in a pool of blood, others were too weak or old to struggle, their spirits broken. These magnificent, noble creatures were reduced to broken heaps of blood and bones in boxes. Most were so thin that their ribs were showing and there was hardly any flesh left. It was one of the most barbaric, nightmarish scenes I have ever witnessed.

As you can see, slaughter is not a nice thing. The animals are definitely not humanely euthanized, but maliciously slaughtered with no regards to the pain that the poor animals must be going through.
This is why awareness must be increased about this horrible act. We must stop theses beautiful creatures from being cruelly slaughtered to become food for humans who already have more than enough food to live on. Yes, that is right, most horses are slaughtered only for HUMAN consumption, NOT for pet food. Horse meat has been found to be in many common foods such as salami, although this is rare. So please help end the needless pain of these magestic animals as they are brutally slaughtered.
