I can think of no other sport in the world that changes the rules of the game so frequently. I was all for the technical changes such as a return to slick tyres and finding ways to reduce aerodynamic turbulence as they allow cars to race closer together, giving the fans what they want...the best drivers in the world, in the best machines, fighting it out wheel to wheel. The last few years has produced some of the most exciting championship battles in history despite, and not because of, so many rule changes. But one change too far will be the abandoning of a points scoring system in favour of Bernie Ecclestones Medals idea. It is against the spirit of F1. Think how Raikkonen pipped Hamilton and Alonso by 1 point, how Hamilton took it from Massa on the last corner, or how Button held on so admirably to win when his car was not performing. Consistency and making the best of a less than perfect situation is written in the DNA of F1. The less competitive teams still have many supporters but with a medals system they will be alienated from the sport. The top teams will always be fighting for the win, the drivers always on the limit and the introduction of a medal system will not suddenly allow a driver to drive many seconds a lap quicker. Please sign this petition so that we (the fans) can stop such dramatic and unnecessary rule changes from damaging the sport we love so much. We can but try! Many Thanks, Simon (Lifetime F1 Fan)
